Who can benefit from a weighted blanket or lap pad?
Weighted lap pads and weighted blankets are recommended by occupational therapists for…
- Alzheimer’s / Dementia
- Autism Spectrum Disorder
- Anxiety / Depression / PTSD
- Restless Leg Syndrome
- Sensory Processing Disorder
How do weighted blankets and lap pads work?
Weighted blankets provide relaxation and a grounded feeling. They work like a hug (and like deep touch pressure provided by Occupational Therapists) to release seratonin, the body’s happy neurotransmitter, and melatonin, the body’s natural sleep regulating hormone. They also provide a secure, grounded feeling for those struggling with sensory issues.
How are they constructed?
Weighted blankets are created with a grid of sections, each filled with a calculated amount of filling, so the weight of the blanket is evenly distributed across the user’s body.
We reinforce our blankets with 1 seam and 2 top-stitches made with strong polyester thread. This creates a triple border to keep the glass microbeads contained so your blanket can be washed in a machine washer/dryer (see instructions below).
60% Synthetic Leather 40% Poly
Filled with stainless steel microbeads. We use stainless steel microbeads because they are washable, non-allergenic, non-porous, virtually indestructible, smoother and more “fluid” within the blanket, and 7x denser than plastic pellets used by many others in the industry. This makes our blankets thinner, easier to fold, maneuver, wash, and transport.
How do I wash my weighted blanket or lap pad?
For this specialty material, Hand Wash Separately Cold, No Bleach, Line Dry, Do Not Iron.
Are there any medical concerns?
Please consult with a medical professional if the intended user has any medical condition that may be affected by the weight of the blanket, such as circulation or muscular issues.
